Overview

Through Doors is a first-person, episodic single-player narrative experience where, by passing through different doors, we will experience each of the stages of Katherine's life. With the help of the objects that she will find around her house, she will be able to collect different amulets and travel to the afterlife.
Through Doors was developed over the course of 9 months for my thesis, where we worked in an environment closely simulating the entire process of game development, including ideation, pre-production and production.

My work
I was part of the game design team of my group, which was formed by 2 programmers, 3 artists and 4 designers (myself included).
Alongside my fellow designers, i worked on the following areas:
Game Design
Coming up with the concept and gameplay, including mechanics and puzzles, as well as maintaining detailed documentation in form of a Game Design Document and Level Design Document. I also worked on the narrative, forming the story and characters, as well as writing dialogue.
Level Design
Designing and testing the playable spaces while taking into account player guidance and narrative. This included mapping out the spaces in 2D and working with the artists to create cohesive environments.
Production
Breaking down the project into user stories and tasks with their own description, tags, assignee, priority and estimated time using ClickUp. Worked with the scrum framework, deciding which user stories from our backlog to tackle on the 2 week sprints. Held the usual scrum meetings such as sprint planning and retrospective. Kept both the sprint backlog and sprint changelog up to date.
