My work
As part of the design team, i was tasked with designing a player level system for ranked matches.
At the start of each season, players begin at level 1. In order to level up, matches are played and, depending if the player wins or loses, XP is obtained or lost respectively. Players will level up once they reach the amount of XP required to access the next level or level down if they fall below it.
The amount of XP won or lost after a match is determined by different performance factors based on the player’s actions, which serve as XP bonuses or penalties. These include the number of shots taken to win the match, the number of balls potted by the opponent and whether or not the cue ball was potted, among others.
Each level is assigned a rank, which range from Bronze to Legendary, and each rank is assigned a tier, which range from from I to III.
As they reach higher levels and ranks, players unlock rewards and premium content. Once the season ends, players are reset back to level 1.
This system dictates the flow and pacing of player progression during the season and is a vital tool to keep players engaged in the game.
